THE KUMASI International Airport project is 55 percent completed, the Aviation Minister, Joseph Adda, has announced.
He further disclosed that the capital intensive facility is expected to be fully completed in April 2021 to boost air travel in Kumasi.
Joseph Adda made the announcement whilst talking to journalists after visiting the site to inspect how the work was moving.
The Aviation Minister said he was impressed with the quality work being executed by the contractors.
“The project includes the second and third phases. This started in 2018 and hopefully it would be completed in April next year.
“The contractor is so far delivering value for money project and I am impressed. I will urge them to sustain their good works on site”
Joseph Adda said the facility, when completed, would go a long way to boost the aviation industry in Kumasi and Ghana in general.
He noted that the Kumasi International Airport would also create jobs, beautify the city of Kumasi and boost the Aviation sector.
The Aviation Minister therefore admonished the contractor to complete the project on time and also ensure value for money project.
The second phase of the project includes the Terminal Building, Apron, which is nearing completion, roads and a big car park.
The third phase includes the building of a Control Tower, Rescue and Fire Fighting Services and Extension of the Round Way.
Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, the Managing Director of Ghana Airport Company, said the round way would be increased from 1981 meters to 2320 meters.
According to him, the completion of the project would see people travelling directly from Kumasi to Europe and other destinations.
Accompanying the Minister on the inspection tour were Kwadwo Abrefa Sarkodie, the Head of Regional Airports and other staff.
