Award-winning Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene was involved in a car accident on Sunday 17th March 2024, late night, sustaining injuries after colliding with a tipper truck.
The incident took place at CP, near the DSTV office towards the Dzowulu traffic light in Accra. The destination of the artist at the time of the accident remains unclear. Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri, the Editor for Modern Ghana news portal, who witnessed the accident, reported that he was following closely behind Kuami Eugene’s car when the collision occurred around 11:30 pm. Upon approaching to offer assistance, Ajarfor Abugri realized that Kuami Eugene was in the car with one male passenger.
“I was behind him, and so I was the first person to rush to his rescue. Kwame was struggling to come out so I brought him out of the car and helped the passenger too, before some guys also came around. I arranged for a vehicle to convey them to the UGMC hospital.”
He described the tipper truck as being in slow motion when Kuami Eugene collided with it from behind. Ajarfor attributed the accident to the poor lighting along the N1 highway and the lack of tail lights on the tipper truck, which worsened visibility. The male passenger reported feeling pain in his neck and back to nurses at the UGMC Hospital, although he didn’t exhibit any obvious physical injuries. Ajarfor enlisted the help of police officers from the Achimota Police Station to tow Kuami Eugene’s car from the scene. He noted visible injuries on the artist, including cuts on his hands, lips, leg, and hip, suggesting a possible broken arm.
“He’s fine. He had a broken arm with blood all over his hands. The car is badly damaged and all the airbags exploded. He could have died”he said.
The artiste was in a range rover with registration number, GC- 220-21.
