It is expected that an artiste will have a bad show at least once in his or her career and we have seen that happen to the best out there over the years.
For young Highlife artiste, Kuami Eugene, his first flop came last Saturday at the Ghana Meets Naija concert where some technical challenges led to him having a bad night.
One wouldn’t say it was a complete flop but for an artiste who in the short time he has been around, has established himself as wonderful performer, especially with live band, this was bad.
Of course as usual, it has raised questions as to whether he has still got it or he has gotten complacent but his label head, Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment says there is no cause for worry.
Richie told Showbiz on Monday that “he has not lost it at all, he is still that artiste who loves to do live band and enjoys doing it. There is no need to panic. It was just one of those nights that things did not go as planned.”
He referenced Kuami Eugene’s performance at the Anas concert which came off on Sunday at the Trade Fair, La, Accra.
“Those who were at the concert can testify and the videos are out there, he nailed it, he killed it, it was amazing, he gave a great performance and that should give his fans the assurance that he has not lost it.”
Explaining what happened on the night, Richie said, “there was a delay in the sound, you know the band and the sound which the DJ was supposed to play at the same time but one delayed so it threw him off.
“ Then after some time, we had to let the band stop playing so that the DJ can do his thing and that was when everything came back to normal.
“During the rehearsals at the auditorium, we had the same challenge and we complained but we were told it was going to be alright.
“ Though we were not convinced, we took the chance but you can’t blame the organisers also, the Dome is a new place and there has not been many shows, so it will take time for some things to be sorted out.”
Asked how he felt about the fans expressing their disappointment in Kuami Eugene’s performance, he said, “it is heartbreaking but we have to be proud of him too. The reason is that, he tried; he struggled to still put up his best performance and enjoy the show without making it obvious that there was an issue and that is the trait of a good artiste.
“If it was some other person, he would have either stopped performing because it was not his fault. We had rehearsed constantly for two weeks for the show and from our end, everything was excellent. You would even remember that Stonebwoy at a time had to let the band stop playing for him.”
Richie said the Lynx team had learnt their lessons from Kuami Eugene’s case. “As an artiste, you may do whatever it is to have a great show but anything can happen, anything can go wrong but your ability to still enjoy the show and deliver is what is important.”
Born Eugene Marfo, the talented musician rose to fame as a participant on MTN Hitmaker – Season 5 in 2016.
Since being signed on to Lynx Entertainment, he has released a number of songs including Angela, Confusion, Hiribaba, Boom Bang Bang, Fadama Boy and Ebeyeyie.
