Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has scored the Nana Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government a little above 50 per cent after 23 months in power.
Although there has been hue and cry over increment in fuel prices and the marginal depreciation of the Ghana cedi against major currencies, the former president noted the performance of the New Patriotic Party government is satisfactory.
”Definitely, within the time frame, I would say [their performance] is over 50 per cent,” Mr Kufuor told Accra-based Joy FM on Monday, 10 December 2018.
Mr Kufuor added that: “They(current government) have a plate full of challenges which they are trying to tackle radically but given the time limits given to them, it is not easy, but I believe they have taken some far-reaching steps which should be appreciated”.
However, he noted the size of government is of major concern to the public and must be addressed by President Akufo-Addo.
Currently, there are about 110 ministers under the Nana Addo administration, making it the largest since the Fourth Republic.
“I think on the numbers of the ministers the president could have kept the numbers in a cool double digits, I believe he will do in no time” – he emphasized.
He, however, added that he was not worried by the actions of his predecessors as that is not his focus.
Even though the NPP is in government currently, Mr Kufuor maintained that what is due him has not been settled.
