Kufuor sleeps in car …over votes
FORMER PRESIDENT John Agyekum Kufuor once slept in his personal vehicle over votes in the round up to the 1996 presidential elections.
Mr. Kufuor, who was the then presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), had travelled to Tumu in the northern part of Ghana.
But because of lack of hospitality industries in the northern of part of the country at the time, Mr. Kufuor was once forced to spend the night in a car.
This shocking revelation was made by Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the NPP, who was speaking on Wontumi TV in Kumasi.
Mr. Agyapong, who was then part of the Mr. Kufuor’s campaign team, recounted the sacrifices that the NPP leadership made for the party at the time.
“You won’t believe it, but it is true that Mr. Kufuor once slept on his personal car during a campaign tour to the northern part of Ghana, ahead of the 1996 elections.
“You just look at the tall nature of Mr. Kufuor and he was compelled to sleep in his car because there were no other place for him to spend the night”, he said.
Kwabena Agyapong used the occasion to admonish NPP youth of today to also sacrifice for the party now, if indeed they aspire to go higher in politics.
“Government should not be seen by the youth as an avenue to make money at the expense of the people, rather it should be seen as opportunity to serve”.
Kwabena Agyapong also entreated the youth to build careers alongside their political careers so that they would live comfortable lives at all times.
