Kumasi: Gunshots At Sly Campaign Meeting
Reports has it that, a meeting between delegates of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a flag bearer-aspirant, Sylvester Mensah, at Suame, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Monday, 11 February 2019, ended with series of gunshots.
The incident, according to sources, was triggered by some confusion that surrounded the busing of delegates to the venue Mr. Mensah was set to meet them.
However, the suspended chairman of the party in the Suame Constituency, Mr Saeed Omar Shaban, has accused the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the Party, Mr Yaw Brogya Genfi of being behind the violence.
He said four Constituency executives approached him and demanded that he release a party car in his possession, to them.
Sylvester Mensah is one of five other candidates who has formally declared their ambitions to vie for the flagbearership position of the NDC.
His contenders are; Former Minister of Trade and Industry Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Former Rector of UPSA, Prof Joshua Alabi, Second Deputy Speaker in Parliament and Nadowli/Kaleo MP, Alban Bagbin and Elikplim Agbemava, some of whom have already received endorsements from some party members.
The NDC flagged off the race on August 8 and announced that presidential hopefuls can start campaigning.
