TWO ladies were nearly lynched on Monday night by an angry mob simply because they were suspected to be lesbians.
The two victims, names withheld, were in their home at Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi, when they were attacked by the youth.
According to reports, the irate youth, without any provocation, surrounded the house in which the ladies were living, and after failing to break in, started hurling stones, sticks, bottles and all sorts of missiles into the compound.
The attackers said they had cause to believe the two young ladies, who were then locked in a room, were in the act of lesbianism.
They reportedly described lesbianism as one of the ‘evils’ behind the economic hardships in the country.
A team of Police officers, who had hint of the attack, rushed to the scene on time to rescue the ladies.
Supt. David Amoako, the Tafo Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to Kofi Asante of Nhyira FM, said the ladies were whisked to a safe hideout.
He disclosed that in the course of rescuing the ladies, one of his men was hit with a stone, but added that the officer was not badly hurt.
According to him, preliminary investigations did not show anything that suggested that the ladies were lesbians.
He said no arrests had as yet been made saying “the place was very dark and our major focus at the time was to save the ladies first”.
