Kumasi Mall Shuts Down After Ceiling Caves In
THE KUMASI City Mall was temporarily closed down on Tuesday morning after some portions of the ceiling caved in.
Reports gathered by THE PUBLISHER from eyewitnesses indicate that people were opening their shops to start work for the day when they heard a deafening noise, sending many workers, security personnel, shop owners and customers to run for cover.
Addressing the media, Kwabena Nsenkyire, the Ashanti Regional National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator, said the collapse was not as serious as they initially feared.
According to him, some portions of the ceiling, which is made of wood, just caved in, adding that no injuries were recorded after the collapse.
Nsenkyire said the debris would be cleared and NADMO would also ensure that visitors to the facility would not be exposed to danger.
THE PUBLISHER gathered that the facility would remain closed to the public until it is confirmed safe for public business.
The paper also gathered that the temporary closure of the mall was among strategies to prevent hoodlums from breaking into the shops.
