Kumasi Mayor Fights Filth
Osei Assibey Antwi, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Saturday personally grabbed a rake and shovel to distill choked gutters in the city and its environs.
Leading be example, Mr. Asibey Antwi led the KMA to organize a massive cleanup exercise across Kumasi. The clean-up exercise was mainly carried out to keep Kumasi clean and beautiful, ahead of Ghana’s 61st Independence Day celebration.
All the sub-metros in Kumasi dispatched their men to clean the dirty areas, which has the potential causing diseases to Kumasi residents.
The clean-up exercise saw choked gutters being cleaned and bushy areas being cleared, among others, to make the city look tidy.
Speaking with THE PUBLISHER, Mr. Asibey Antwi said he decided to enter the gutters and get them distilled so as to motivate other city dwellers to do so.
The Mayor said the KMA wants to keep the city clean so that people who would troop to the city to mark the Independence Day would love the environment.
According to him, the KMA is doing its best to keep the city clean and tidy, but sadly some residents are still making the city dirty with their weird lifestyles.
“We realized that some people intentionally throw waste into the gutters, which get them choked and cause floods when it rains in the city”, he lamented.
The Kumasi Mayor warned that the KMA would enforce the sanitation laws so that people, who dumped waste around indiscriminately, would be punished by law.
