Osei Assibey Antwi, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has cautioned residents of Kumasi against the wrongful disposal of filth and waste in the city.
He was specific in the issue of dumping filth in unapproved places, and threatened that any person that would flout this order would be punished by law.
According to him, the KMA spends a huge part of its scanty resources to maintain proper sanitation of the city so the residents must behave well.
“The KMA is using huge budget to deal with sanitation issues in the city and so we are expecting residents to do the proper thing at all times.
“It is against the law for anybody to throw garbage at unapproved sites since such behaviour could have adverse effects on our lives”, he said.
Osei Assibey Antwi was speaking during a mammoth cleanup exercise in Kumasi to help beautify the city on Saturday morning.
The exercise started at Adum and ended at the Baba Yara Stadium. It was to help keep the city clean ahead of the Ghana’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.
The attention of the entire country would switch to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital henceforth as Ghana marks its 63rd anniversary in the city on Friday
Osei Assibey Antwi admonished residents of Kumasi to be law abiding and also contribute their quota so that the anniversary programme would be successful.
He said the KMA was ready and poised to make historic event, which is taking place in Kumasi for the first time, to be an incident-free programme.
