Kumasi Ring-Road Project Starts
THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) government has fulfilled one of its major campaign promises to the people of Ashanti region, as several road projects in the region have been awarded on contract.
One such major project, which has been awarded on contract so far, is the Kumasi Ring-Road Project.
The project starts from the Anloga Junction through the Airport Roundabout, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Sofoline Interchange, Santase Roundabout, Ahodwo Roundabout, the Asokwa Interchange and ends at Anloga Junction.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who made the announcement, said different contractors have been awarded contracts to complete the project.
According to him, aside given the city a facelift, the ring-road project would go a long way to make movement in the city easier and more comfortable.
Addressing a press conference, where he discussed government’s efforts to tackle the bad status of roads in the Ashanti region, the minister said work will soon begin on many of the roads.
Hon. Osei Mensah disclosed that 30 Urban Road projects would be carried out by government this year. He said while eight of them have already been awarded on contract, the remaining ones are in the procurement process.
According to him, the project to remove four ‘stubborn’ roundabouts from the Tech Police Station to Ejisu has also been awarded to two contractors, who have started work.
He said work on the asphalt overlay of the stretch from Tech to Anloga Junction would commence very soon, adding that repair works on the Manhyia Roads and 13 other feeder roads in the region would also begin.
