Kumasi Traders Weep
…Over Poor Easter Sales
Hundreds of traders in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti region, are virtually in tears over what they describe as poor patronage of their goods.
They have complained bitterly that people were not patronizing their wares even though the Easter festivities were fast approaching.
According to them, in the past, the season witnessed a boom in sales and expressed shock and dismay over the sudden turn of events this time around.
Interestingly, the traders are of the view that their predicament was as a result of certain policies of the government, and have therefore appealed passionately to the president to come to their aid on time so that they would record bumper sales.
“I think the government is responsible for the low sales that we have been recording in the markets lately so the government must be blamed.
“The financial distress in the country now is too much and that is why the people are not able to buy our products even though Easter is coming.
“If the government sits up and addresses the financial troubles of the people, definitely they would start buying our products”, Maame Akua, a trader, said.
Prince Peprah, who operates a boutique at Adum, the Central Business District (CBD) in Kumasi, said market had been bad for about one-year now.
He noted that things had gone from bad to worse for traders in the city in the last year and also appealed to government to come to their aid.
