Kumawood Movie Industry Is ‘Dead’ – McBrown
Renowned actress, Felicity Ama Agyemang, known as Nana Ama McBrown, has said the local movie industry, Kumawood, is dead.
Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Monday, the actress disclosed that, the number of movie scripts she normally receives in a month had declined significantly.
“Those days, I could I could have as many as four different scripts in a month, but it’s not like that anymore…,” she revealed.
Asked if she believes that Kumawood has died completely, the actress said, “yes it has collapsed. The speed of the work has reduced drastically.”
The ‘SideChic Gang’ actress further attributed the seemingly collapsed industry to the decision by the government to reconstruct the Kejetia Market complex in Kumasi.
According to her, the mass eviction that took place at Kejetia affected the market as the CD sellers that used to patronise their movies have no place to sell their wares.
Nana Ama urged various producers to step up their game to match international movie standards.
“Now everything is on social media. There is Netflix and all that. Maybe we need to upgrade. This is not the time to give up. Are they ready to shoot that kind of movie that will go far?
“If we do a good movie, we can get the money back. It has gone down but we shouldn’t blame anyone…,” the actress said.
