Kumawood Protest Over Influx of Telenovelas
Film producers in the Ashanti Region have hit the streets of Kumasi to protest the influx of telenovelas on the country’s television stations.
According to the group, the constant showing of the foreign content on local television stations is affecting their business and must be discouraged.
They want government to intervene and save their industry from collapsing.
An executive of the group Atta Aboagye who spoke to Fremah Boakye of Ultimate FM in Kumasi said they want government to pass the broadcasting bill to safe guard local contents.
“We want government to listen to us and pass the broadcasting bill and when those bills are passed, there will be 70% for local content and 30% foreign and this will control the influx of these telenovelas. We know that this government is a listening government and will hear us”.
