THE NEW Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to allow former party General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, to join its campaign team, seems to have sparked anger in the party.
Kwabena Agyapong was seen among the NPP bigwigs that accompanied President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on a campaign tour in the Bono East Region some few days ago.
Ideally, Kwabena Agyapong’s presence at the campaign front should have brought joy and confidence to the ruling political party to emerge as victorious in the December 7 elections.
But that was not the case as Kwabena Agyapong’s inclusion has rather ignited extreme anger among several NPP members and sympathisers, who have opined his presence is not needed.
Grapevine Informatiom indicated that President Nana Akufo-Addo personally sanctioned for Kwabena Agyapong to join the party’s campaign team, especially as the polls is getting closer.
Flouts NPP Law
However, several NPP stalwarts have argued that the inclusion of Kwabena Agyapong in the campaign team clearly breaches the party’s laws.
According to them, the NPP National Council suspended Kwabena Agyapong therefore President Nana Akufo-Addo cannot single handedly invite Kwabena Agyapong into the campaign team.
Sign Of Discrimination
Other party members also said the party suspended Kwabena Agyapong, Sammy Crabbe and Paul Afoko therefore inviting one and leaving two behind, is a sign of discrimination.
“Where is Paul Afoko, our former National Chairman and Sammy Crabbe?” NPP chairman in one of the constituencies in the Ashanti Region asked, with a grim face.
According to him, if the party had decided to welcome the trio into the forefront of the party “then all three of them should be invited and not just Kwabena Agyapong. This shows discrimination”.
