THE KWADASO Agric College in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, is set to be upgraded to a full fledged university to train more qualified Agric personnel.
Already, talks are ongoing behind the scenes to seek the support of the prestigious Mendel University in the Czech Republic so the Agric College could become a university.
This good news was disclosed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the Centenary Celebrations of the Kwadaso Agric College, which was held on Friday.
The latest development, he said, requires that the school should get enough land at its disposal for any future expansion works as the university plan is in the pipeline.
“I will urge the chiefs in this community to allocate some lands towards the expansion of the school towards the eventual establishment of the agric university”, he said.
The president said the country needed more trained technical Agric officials so that their expertise could be tapped by farmers to ensure the abundance of food.
“The Agric University will lead to the production of requisite personnel for research and also provide leadership in the agricultural sector”, he said about the Agric university idea.
Nana Addo used the occasion to commend Agric Field Officers in the country for their important roles which has made the Planting for Food Jobs policy a great success to far.
“The Agric Field Officers are the Footsoldiers who go to the field and give technical advice for the policy to succeed”, the president indicated, urging them to sustain their works.
He concluded by granting a passionate request by the school authorities for government to donate a 80-seater bus for the school to mark its 100 years of existence.
