Kwesi Appiah Not Worried by Injuries
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has rubbished suggestions that his side could struggle against Kenya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday due to the Black Stars’ injury situation.
Hoffenheim centre-back Kassim Nuhu Adams and FC Metz new signing John Boye will not play a part in the game after they sustained injuries while in action at club level, prompting a late call-up for Crvena Zvezda defender Rashid Sumaila.
“It’s unfortunate that Kassim Nuhu and John Boye won’t be able to travel with us to Kenya. They are both experienced players but they are injured and there is nothing we can do about it,” Appiah said.
“We have to re-strategise, especially with regards to our defence. I can confidently say that we are not panicking at all despite these late injuries.
“We are aware that Kenya, who are without a point in this campaign, would be out to frustrate us and possibly pick their first point, but we are determined to just continue from where we left off in the opening game.
“We are not going to miss chances or whatsoever,” he added.
Ghana are leaders of Group F with three points following an opening day 5-0 thrashing of Ethiopia, while Kenya are second from bottom with no point after losing to Sierra Leone 2-1.
