The existence of Lake Bosumtwe is under threat due to illegal human activates along its banks.
Yaw Danso , the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, the area within which the river is situated, made the disturbing revelation of the threatened-survival of the popular and highly revered lake in Asanteman in an interview he granted Akoma FM
According to him, Lake Bosomtwe, over the years, is noted for having 13 species of fish in it but the number has reduced to just 4 in recent times.
“The 13 species of fish that used to live in the lake has been reduced sharply to just 4 in a matter of a few years time”, the DCE said.
Hon. Danso, without mincing words, attributed the sharp decline in the species of fish in the famous lake, mainly to human activities around the lake.
“Human activities in particular is the major cause of the decline in fish species in the Lake Bosomtwe in recent years”, the DCE openly lamented.
Hon. Danso said the Bosome Freho assembly has put in place pragmatic measure to help save Lake Bosomtwe, a national asset, from being extinct.
According to him, the Assembly has commenced a massive tree planting exercise on the boundaries of the lake in order to protect the big lake.
He announced that henceforth, no development or construction work would be permitted. 50 yards to the lake, warning that offenders would be punished.
Hon. Danso said the Lake is a national asset therefore the Assembly he heads would do everything possible to protect and preserve it for generations yet unborn to also benefit from it.
