Leaked Tape Saga: Mahama Pisses In! …As Ofosu Ampofo Faces CID Today
Former president John Mahama says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), must disregard the contents of the leaked tape recording attributed to the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
In his view, the party as well as its teaming supporters ought to “dismiss [the tape] with all the contempt that it deserves”.
The NDC has come under criticism after its National Chairman is heard plotting its 2020 election strategy which included training and arming party militias, denigrating political arbiters such as the Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensah and the head National Peace Council.
The Church of Pentecost Church Elder is heard on the tape among others as saying “As for the EC Chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face.”
The party has attracted wide condemnation after it branded the leaked tape concocted and doctored amidst varying degrees of contradiction from the party’s Communicators.
While the deputy NDC National Communications Officer, Kwaku Boahen said the tape was authentic, his boss, another Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi called it doctored with the party’s official position being the latter.
Mahama Pisses
But the 2020 flagbearer of the party on Saturday told supporters after a walk in Accra that the leaked tape is “distraction” thrown in by an opponent “good at propaganda”.
He stated that “absolutely nothing” can stop the party from winning back power in 2020, urged supporters to remain focused.
“Our message must be to the Ghanaian people. Let us tell the Ghanaian people what we can do for them and cease the endless argument with the NPP”.
The former President indicated the NDC has an electable track record in government which it can sell to the electorate.
“Ghanaians have seen that we are masters at delivering health infrastructure…educational infrastructure…road infrastructure”.
He claimed the party’s office was bugged by the NPP government, a claim the Information minister has denied.
Mr. Mahama criticized said the Akufo-Addo government is not focused enough on solving Ghana’s problems.
“It is only a government that has too much time on its hands because it is not working that will have time go and bug the office of its opponent. We don’t have time for that”.
Ofosu Ampofo who was also at the walk has however denied any wrong doing.
CID Probe
Meanwhile, the embattled National Chairman of the NDC is expected to make an appearance at the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this morning after a no show on Thursday.
Ofosu Ampofo failed to make an appearance before the CID last week claiming he had not been officially invited by the police although police sources held a different narration.
Police sources had claimed that the invitation letter was sent to the house of Ofosu Ampofo but a private security man at the gate at the time refused to receive it.
The police later took the letter to the NDC head office at Adabraka in Accra but the under fire Chairman was unavailable and had to be invited through Whatsapp.
