Leave IGP Alone …Edmund Kyei
Mr. Edmund Kyei, Asokwa Constituency first vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on social commentators, who have constantly criticized the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, to desist from their ‘weird behaviour’.
According to him, even though there had been some reported cases of robberies in the country in recent times, it is totally wrong for the people to put the entire blame on the police boss.
Kyei was of the view that, if for nothing at all, the current police administration, under the IGP, has done a yeoman job in the overall security of the state, and so does not deserve the bashings being meted to them.
He called on the public to throw their weight behind the police so they can get rid of the bandits in the country, instead of blaming the IGP wrongly.
“This IGP has done a yeoman’s job by maintaining law and order in the country so far. It is true that the robbers are causing trouble lately, but I don’t support the behaviour of some people, who are acting as if security has totally broken down in the country.
“Mr. David Asante-Apeatu has initiated several pragmatic policies aimed at making the police service one of the best in the world and you will soon see it.
“The robberies that have been occurring are unfortunate but I don’t side with those, who have heaped the blame on the IGP alone; it is totally wrong”.
He said it is not proper when some people deliberately close their eyes on the positive sides of the police and rather highlight on their few setbacks due to partisan politics, noting that some of the notorious robbers in the country have been either shot dead or arrested.
He stressed that issues about security should be discussed devoid of politics, and urged the people to feed the police with vital information that would lead to the arrest of suspected criminals.
