Lebanese Rape Suspect Denied Bail
The Criminal Court 2 of the Accra High Court has refused to grant a bail application filed by counsel for a Lebanese who is standing trial for purportedly raping his 19-year-old house help.
Haddad Rabih was picked up by police from the East Legon District Police Command and was later arraigned.
Reports indicated that the 39-year-old accused forcibly had sex with the victim around 5p.m. on Saturday, 2 December in the absence of his wife and other occupants of his household, after subjecting the victim to severe beatings for resisting his demands. The incident happened at Airport Hills residential area.
Class91.3FM’s Ibrahim Obeng Mensah reported on Tuesday, 19 December that the court said investigations have not yet been concluded, and, therefore, granting the suspect bail may influence findings of the investigations.
Again the court said it will look into the alibi filed by the state prosecutors to determine whether or not the accused was at home during the time of the offence, since he is claiming innocence.
A DNA test will also be carried out to help with the investigations.
The presiding judge has also ordered the investigator to speed up with his probe into the matter.
