LEKMA MCE Calls For Girl Child Empowerment
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), Hon. (Mrs.) Evelyn Naa Adjeley Twum Gyamrah has urged mothers to pay extra attention to the education of their female children.
She advised parents, especially mothers, to have special interests in their children by cutting down cost on clothes, cosmetics and social functions and channeling the funds into the education of their children.
The Municipal Chief Executive made this statement at the 5th KG Independence Day Anniversary held at Nungua Town Park on March 2, under the theme: “Putting Ghana Beyond Aid”.
“As a woman I’m particularly interested in girl-child education since most girls drop out along the way from the education ladder, this is unfortunate since girls end up becoming independent on men for survival when they could have found good jobs after graduating from school”, Mrs. Gyamrah explained the disadvantages of not empowering the female child.
Mrs. Gyamrah further noted that “the management of LEKMA through the education directorate is ready to support schools in the Municipality to help with the best education for our young ones who are the future leaders.”
Touching on developmental projects in the Municipality, the LEKMA MCE said her outfit has helped in building new school blocks at Teshie Krobo 1, Nungua SDA and Nungua Anglican and also contributing desks and furniture to schools that need them.
“It is our hope that we will mobilise enough internal revenue to develop the various sectors of our economy and not to rely on aid from foreign countries,” she added.
The LEKMA Education Directorate held its 5th parade for the kindergarten children in the district to march toward Ghana’s 61st Independence.
There were cultural displays and a march-past by students in various schools in the Ledzokuku Municipality as part of activities to commemorate the event.
Some of the schools that participated in the parade are; Pre- Vas Royal Kids School, His Grace and Mercy School, Great Future Stars Academy, Wingston International School, Ebenezer Baptist School, Kaaris Academy, Abundant Blessing Prep. School, Richbethel School, Lucky Child International School, Selhurst E.S. Montessori.
