Louisa Atta-Agyemang has been appointed the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in charge of operations.
Her appointment was announced in a letter dated Wednesday December 13, 2023 and signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President.
It reads “Pursuant to Section 15 (1) (c) of the National Health Insurance Act, 2012 (Act 852), I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to act as the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of operations of the National Health Insurance Authority (the “Authority”) pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing Board of the Authority, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
“Kindly indicate your acceptance of the appointment within 14 days of receipt of this letter. Please accept the President’s best wishes”, part of Louisa Atta-Agyemang’s appointment letter read.
President Akufo-Addo also used the occasion to congratulate Louisa Atta-Agyeman on her appointment, stating “I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment”.
Louisa Atta-Agyemang is noted for being humble, respectful, a team player and very hardworking. Her appointment would therefore definitely help to transform the NHIA.
Even before dust could settle on the appointment of Louisa Atta-Agyemang to the NHIA, Otec Fm reported that she has received another appointment, this time as the Vice Chairman of the International Democracy Union (IDU).
The report said the IDU appointment was announced at a Forum held in Washington D.C. from December 4 to 6, 2023.
Louisa Atta-Agyemang is a member of the New Patriotic Party and has been a strong advocate for equity within the leadership and political space, having inspired and groomed many young men and women into various leadership positions.
Her leadership journey commenced from her days as the first female President of her university’s student representative council and first female President of the Ghana Union of Professional Students.
She was also the first female President of the National Union of Ghana Students (in an acting capacity) and the first female president of the Young Democrat Union of Africa and currently as the first female Co-Chair of the Democrat Union of Africa.
During the 2023 IDU forum in Washington D. C., Louisa Atta-Agyemang engaged in various sessions.
Notably, she spoke at the Lunch Discussion of the International Women’s Democrat Union (IWDU), focusing on “The Role of Female Leadership in the Face of Rising Threats to Democratic Values.”
Louisa strongly opined that “Female leadership should not be tokenistic; it should not be an afterthought. If we want to achieve a better society, then we should encourage female participation in politics at all levels….”.
Louisa Atta-Agyemang’s appointment as Vice Chair of the IDU reflects not only her personal achievements but also her dedication to advancing democratic principles on the global stage.
This recognition positions her as a key figure in international political leadership and underscores the importance of diverse voices in shaping the future of democracy both in Ghana and across the African continent.
