Three seems to be high demand for the purchase of generators in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, these few days.
This follows a massive power outage, popularly known as ‘Dumsor’ in the local parlance, which hit Kumasi on Tuesday evening.
The lights suddenly went off around 2:23 pm on Tuesday and the city was plunged into total darkness for several hours afterwards.
Surprisingly, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) even seemed to overwhelmed about the power outage, which sparked public anger.
After several hours of total darkness, the ECG could not come out to explain why the lights had gone off without prior public notice.
Later on, GRIDCO, the suppliers of power, issued a press release and explained that the outage was a temporal mishap, which would be fixed.
But the explanation of GRIDCO and the eventual restoration of power on Tuesday night doesn’t seemed to have convinced Kumasi residents.
Most of the people that the paper talked to during the hours of darkness, said they were cock sure that Dumsor had returned to stay.
According to them, even though the present government had worked tirelessly to ensure constant power supply for three years they believe the good days are over.
Most of them said Dumsor usually starts with unexpected power outages across the country, so what happened on Tuesday was enough caution.
True to their words, checks made by THE NEW PUBLISHER the following day, revealed that people have started buying generators in the city.
