President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed the 24-hour economy policy, a key proposal the National Democratic Congress (NDC) intend to implement if the party returns to power.
Expressing disbelief over the NDC’s advocacy for a 24-hour economy, proposed by the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, President Akufo-Addo questioned how John Mahama intends to implement the policy, citing his inability to provide consistent power supply for more than 12 hours during the dumsor crisis.
“Today, he is staging a comeback. What is he coming to do? A 24-hour economy? You couldn’t keep the lights on for 12 hours during ‘dumsor’ when you were President, and now you are coming to give us a 24-hour economy? How are you going to do that? Please, don’t let anybody confuse you with these things,” he urged.
Speaking to professional bodies and party supporters in Kumasi at the start of his three-day Ashanti Region tour, His Excellency stated that Ghanaians should not be swayed by Mahama promises but rather reject the NDC because of their failures and poor governance.
The President emphasized the pattern of past presidents serving two terms, whereas Mahama was voted out after only one term.
According to him, this alone speaks volumes about the performance of the previous Mahama-led NDC government.
“There are four other people who have had the blessing of the Almighty and the support of the people of Ghana to become Presidents.
Jerry John Rawlings had a second term, John Agyekum Kufuor had a second term, and I have had a second term. The only one who was not given a second term was John Dramani Mahama. There is a reason for that—because Ghanaians were unhappy about his abysmal performance, which is why he was voted out,”he highlighted.
President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
During the tour, he inspected and commissioned various developmental projects and engaged with traditional leaders to strengthen collaboration and support.
His visit to the Ashanti Region forms part of his efforts to engage with key stakeholders, assess ongoing projects, and galvanize support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections.
Wrapping up the tour on Tuesday, 26th November 2024, Kumasi traders celebrated as Nana Akufo-Addo concluded his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region with a visit to the market.
