Gospel Musician, Nicholas Omane Acheampong has given the reason why former President John Dramani Mahama lost the 2016 elections despite doing well in infrastructural development.
According to him, Ghanaians have passed that stage where they are moved by a government’s investment in infrastructure.
To him, Ghanaians are moved by bread and butter issues including the education of their wards because the development of a country’s human capital goes a long way to help in the development of the country.
The Gospel Musician was speaking on Accra-based OKAY FM’s ‘Best Entertainment Show’ hosted by Halifax Ansah-Addo.
He said “Do you know why John Mahama lost in 2016? You had all our money in your hands, and when someone was campaigning on sending the children of the poor to school, you were talking about building infrastructure. He lost because he was campaigning with infrastructural development. He was campaigning that he had built the Kasoa interchange. But my mother who is in the village if she’s hungry will she come and sit on the overhead? The Children in the villages I’m not sure they will ever come to Accra to use the interchange. So if you add such a message to your message as a sitting President and tell the people you have built an interchange so Ghanaians should vote for you, then it means you’re losing the election.
“It’s time they come to the realization that if someone is a musician, it means you’re out of wisdom. Nana Addo started preaching Free SHS in 2008. When I saw it in his manifesto, I knew he had won. Everyone who knew me knows that I went to Akufo-Addo’s house even when he was in opposition just because of Free SHS. Ghana’s major problem is the fact that most people could not get education in the past.
“So If someone says he’s bringing Free SHS and you the former President says it’s not possible and that the country is not ready and it’s impossible but Nana Addo insisted it will be possible. You who was the President then said it was not possible because you’ve built an overhead and an interchange bra, it’s time we hold our leaders accountable. When Nana was given the mandate because he said it was possible, hasn’t he implemented it? In this country the poor and destitute also matter so the one who said it’s possible and the one who said it’s are you sure this time around that Mahama has come back that he will introduce free tertiary are you sure it’s possible?”
“That is why I’m asking everyone to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo so that he will do the SHS well so that even if we don’t get anything, we know that our children after high school will be qualified for the Military, Police and other Services.”
