The Executive Member of the Tema East Constituency of the NDC Stephen Ashitey Adjei Moshake popularly known as ”Mo Shake” has urged former President John Dramani Mahama not to let utterances of some members of the ruling NPP push him to contest for the flag bearership position of the NDC for 2020 even when the grounds are not favourable to him .
He said with various personalities angling for the flagbearership in 2020, there is a vicious chess game, in which the wannabes are sponsoring loyalists to step up and contest for various executive positions so that when it is time for the election of flagbearer, these personalities can fall on them as support base.
“You see, in the past, when some of us revealed that the NPP is on a mission to use reverse-psychology to make Mahama run for the flagbearership so that they can easily beat him in 2020 if he wins, people did not take us serious. This order from the NPP Constituency Chairman, as shocking as it is, is part of the agenda to force Mahama into the race” – he said.
According to him, the grounds were rather fertile for the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to lead the NDC into 2020 and not former President Mahama.
Mr Ashitey-Adjei who is also known as Moshake said that by calling on the former President to stand for selection was an infringement upon the liberties of the NDC members to make an informed choice.
Moshake said the NPP preferred candidature because it would be easy for the NPP to win in 2020 against the NDC if Mahama was the party’s flagbearer.
He said Mr Amfo-Sefah also known as Nana Boakye’s order resounded an earlier declaration by the Ashanti regional Chairman of the ruling NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Wontumi, to the effect that the NPP will force Mahama to run in 2020.
The worried Tema East executive member further called on the leadership of the party to bring the various flagbearer aspirants and their camps to order, pointing out that the enmity being created among executives would end up hurting the party as a whole.
He made the comment in an interview with Peace fm. Explaining fruther, Mr Ashitey Adjei Moshake believes out of the many personalities who intend to contest for the flag bearer of the NDC for 2020, Hon Alban Bagbin the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament stands the best chance of winning the race .
