Mahama Overworked Himself – Bagbin
The second deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin believes former president John Mahama would have succeeded if he had delegated responsibilities more.
The MP for Nadowli-Kaleo said leaders who believe in teamwork succeed, but Mahama “overworked” himself at his own peril.
The longest-serving MP in Ghana’s parliament stressed Mahama had at his disposal abundant talents within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but only focused on a few hands who failed him.
According to Bagbin, he took pains to raise the red flags but ended up being the black sheep within the Umbrella family.
“He took some of the advice seriously and acted upon them. It was difficult getting to him. I have spoken to him a number of times biting more than he could chew,” Bagbin said on GhOne TV’s State of Affairs show.
He added: “I drew his attention to the fact that he should delegate more because he seems to be overworking himself because in political leadership it is team work. I thought he was not fully utilizing the potentials and the bevy of good people he hard – articulate and excellent people.
“I also thought that some of them were not properly placed; if they had been given some other positions they would have performed better than they did.”
The former majority leader said he will beat Mahama if the latter declares his intention to contest in the NDC flagbearer search for election 2020.
“He knows my capacity and has worked with me for many years as a minority leader and later as a minister of state,” Bagbin stated.
