Mahama Rivals Blocked, Allotey Jacobs Justifies Plot
THE CENTRAL Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allottey Jacobs has started scheming in his biased quest in support of former president John Mahama to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2020 polls.
Mr. Jacobs recently made a public declaration in support of John Manama’s bid and he is reported the have prevented some potential NDC presidential candidates from addressing party supporters that took part of the NDC Unity Walk, which was held at Cape Coast over the weekend.
Party stalwarts reported to have expressed an interest to lead the NDC as flagbearer in 2020 include Alban Bagbin, Joshua Alarbi, Sylvester Mensah, Nii Latey Vanderpuye, Stephen Atubiga, Okoe Vanderpuye, just to mention a few.
Some of them were present at the programme but they were not allowed by Mr. Allottey Jocobs, the Regional Chairman, to address the charged crowd.
Allottey Jacobs, however, made arrangement for Mr. Mahama, who is now seeking to be re-elected as the NDC flagbearer just like the others, to address the huge crowd, a move which is interpreted as a way of boosting his chances of winning the NDC presidential elections.
The camps of Joshua Alarbi and Mr. Mensah are said to be unhappy over the open bias that Allottey Jacobs displayed to Mr. Mahama but they did not complain officially to the party leadership, the paper has been made aware.
Allottey Defends Action
But Allottey Jacobs seems not perturbed about the complaints, saying that he was right to allow Mr. Mahama, who is a former president to address the crowd at Cape Coast.
“Joshua Alarbi and Sly Mensah were present at the Cape Coast NDC Unity Walk but I did not allow them to address the crowd because officially they are not contesting to become NDC flagbearers for the 2020 polls”, he said on Peace FM.
“Now, it is just a rumour that these aforementioned people and others have interest in leading the NDC as flagbearers but until they officially pick forms and state their intentions, they would not be allowed to speak at NDC programmes”.
Allottey, who recently declared his unalloyed support for Mr. Mahama to become the NDC flagbearer, once again stated that “Mr. Mahama is popular among all the people who have intentions of leading the NDC as flagbearer”.
He flatly debunked rumours that the NDC Unity Walk at Cape Coast was used by him (Allottey) to promote Mr. Mahama, stressing that the former Ghana leader is very popular in his own right “so he don’t need any promotion.
Allottey also rejected reports that Mr. Mahama sponsored the NDC Unity Walk at Cape Coast, saying that “Kojo Bonsu and Joshua Akamba brought some banners and some ex-government officials of the NDC administration also supported it”.
