A 73-YEAR-OLD man is in hot waters as he has been jailed 10 years for illegally possessing guns and ammunitions.
Umar Shatta was handed his jail term on Wednesday by a Kumasi High Court, presided over by Justice Obiri Yeboah.
His accomplice, Frank Badu, was jailed for 4 years, while Suleman Alhassan, another accomplice, was handed a six-month jail term by the court.
The convicts were picked up by personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command in a house at Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi, three years ago.
According to the police, they had credible information that some people were dealing in guns and other offensive weapons in large quantities in a certain house at Alabar, which was also a transit point for illegal gun running to other West African countries.
The allegation was confirmed as the police, in a swoop, seized several quantities of guns and ammunitions, ready to be transported to Niger.
