THE POLICE are investigating how a 21 year-old man got drowned in an abandoned mining pit, which was filled with stagnant water.
The police said some group of miners claimed they saw Akwasi Joshua, now deceased, virtually struggling to swim from the deep pit at 1:30 on February 14, 2025.
The miners also stated that they offered a helping hand by jumping into the pit to rescue Joshua, but when he (Joshua) was eventually rescued, he was already dead.
The case happened at Hiakosi near Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, the police said, adding that they (police) are thoroughly investigating the case.
Meanwhile, THE NEW PUBLISHER has spotted a Sitrep from the Atwima Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region, which confirmed the death of Joshua.
It said, “On 14/02/25 at 1800hrs, Ebenezer Yeboah of Manso Nkwanta called at the station and reported that on same day at 1330hrs, he was at an old mining site at Hiakosi with his workers when they spotted one Akwasi Joshua, aged 21, now deceased, struggling to swim in a pit of water.
“That the workers rushed to rescue him but he was dead after removing him”, adding that police saw Joshua’s dead body when they visited the crime scene after hearing about the case.
According to the police, the body has been placed in a morgue, noting that “Investigation will be extended to the person who created the said pit and what the deceased was doing at the site before the incident”.
