THE WEARING of political colours and paraphernalia are not permitted at the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, in any of the activities lined up to mark the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s silver jubilee anniversary.
This irreversible directive was announced by the Chairman of the Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee, Nana Otuo Serebuo, the Asante Juaben Paramount Chief, during a press conference in Kumasi on Friday.
“Politicians should take note that the wearing of political colours and paraphernalia are forbidden during all the activities that have been lined up to honour our revered king on his 25th anniversary on the Golden Stool”, he announced.
According to Juabenhene, politicians and their teeming follower should do well by respecting this strong directive so as to make the anniversary an incident free affair, warning that anyone who would flout this order would be dealt with.
Nana Otuo Serebuo also announced that, following the intervention of the Asantehene, some precious Crown Jewels of Asanteman, which were looted by invading British troops and sent to the US and UK 150 years ago, would be brought back to Kumasi this year.
Announcing the good news, he said the crown jewels that were sent to the US have already been brought back to the country now and they would be presented to Otumfuo during a durbar, marking the 150 years of the ‘Sagrenti’ war, at the Mannyia Palace on Thursday.
According to him, plans are on the way for the Asante Crown Jewels that were also sent to a museum in Britain to be brought back to Kumasi in a few weeks time, adding that the return of the precious Crown Jewels was significant to the Asante Kingdom.
Nana Otuo Serebuo also said among the activities lined up for Otumfuo’s silver jubilee anniversary included a clean up exercises in Kumasi; symposiums, a grand durbar of chiefs and people at the Manhyia Palace, just to mention a few.
