THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi, has set a positive record by distributing polling station forms to interested party members in a peaceful manner.
Even though the party exercise has been marred with fighting and controversy in some constituencies, the NPP in the Manhyia South Constituency were exceptional as theirs was smooth and very peaceful.
When THE NEW PUBLISHER visited the Abbey’s Park on Tuesday afternoon, where the committee in charge of the distribution of the forms had seated, there was law and order and total peace at the place.
Nana Ama Ampomah, the Ashanti Regional NPP Women Organizer, who was the Chairperson of the Committee, announced that 620 party people from six electoral areas have picked forms in two days.
She noted that the six electoral areas in the Manhyia South Constituency includes Odumase, Afia Kobi, CPC, KO, Dichemso, Manhyia Proper, adding that the all the 620 people were successfully vetted.
“We started the exercise on Monday and Tuesday where 620 party people picked forms and they were successfully vetted and cleared to submit the forms on Wednesday, which is the third day”, she disclosed.
Nana Ama Ampomah said 535 party delegates from 107 polling stations in the constituency would be shortlisted from the 620 forms received to prepare the party album form for the Manhyia South Constituency.
She announced that where there is no contest, a popular acclamation concept would be used to declare the winner, adding that “where there are more than one candidate, voting would be used to declare the winner”.
Nana Ama Ampomah stated that the Manhyia South NPP Constituency distribution of polling station forms exercise has been very peaceful and smooth “because the exercise was free, fair and very transparent”.
Thomas Boadu, a dyed-in-the-wool NPP member in the Dichemso Electoral Area, after picking his forms, told the paper that Manhyia South NPP MP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’ hates cheating.
According to him, Napo, who doubles as the Energy Minister, has made sure that fairness prevailed in his constituency and that has resulted in the peaceful exercise here”, he pointed out with a smile.
Thomas Boadu also showered tons of praises on the Manhyia South NPP Executives and the Vetting Committee for making the exercise free and transparent, stressing that “other constituencies should learn from us”
