MANSO NKWANTA SHOOTING SUSPECTS GRILLED

KEY PEOPLE that were connected to the shooting to death of seven suspected robbers at the Manso Nkwanta area some months ago have been interrogated by a committee set up by government.

The committee had completed its work and presented its findings to the Attorney-General’s (AG) Department and the AG is set to also submit its findings and recommendations to government.

The government would in turn make known its recommendations about the dicey security issue to the public, latest by this Friday, a source close to government has disclosed.

The government’s recommendations would prove as to whether the police were justified in shooting to death the seven people, five of whom are natives of Asawase, a Zongo area.

It would be recalled that the police in the Ashanti region shot and killed seven people, who the police accused of being hardened robbers on their way to rob a mining site.

The incident, which occurred some months ago, generated a security challenge at Asawase as scores of Zongo youth rejected the police’s claim that they were armed robbers.

The charged youth blocked major roads in Asawase and burnt car tyres in protest, prompting the IGP, David Asante-Apeatu, to visit the area to help restore law and order.

Government then urged the aggrieved youth to exercise patience as it (government) had formed an independent committee to investigate the case to establish the truth.
