Three masked men in the Ashanti region have shot and killed a 49-year old taxi driver who refused to stop his car when they ordered him to.
The masked men, surprisingly, did not take away anything at the crime scene as they fled through a thick bush.
It is not clear if the three masked men were armed robbers or hired assassins, who were engaged by someone to kill the driver in that wicked manner on the midnight of Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Kofi Berko, 49, a native of Maase, in the Ashanti region. He was in charge of a taxi cab, registered AS 1722-11.
A lady, who gave her name as Abena Serwah, 29 years old, who was in the car at the time the driver was shot, said she was luckily spared by the criminals.
According to a police report, sighted by The New Publisher has, the Opel Astra vehicle was attacked in between Buoho and Maase in the Ashanti region on the midnight of Monday.
Upon reaching a spot on the Buoho to Brofoyeduru road, three men, who were wearing masks to cover their faces, jumped into the road and signaled the driver to stop.
The report said the driver ignored the order for him to stop the car as he drove past the masked men, who quickly opened fire and started shooting into the car and shot the driver from behind.
The robbers then fired several gunshots but luckily they did not aim the gun at the then fear-stricken lady passenger who said she was shivering and panting for breath at the time.
Some residents of the area who heard the gunshots, called the police, who quickly rushed to the scene but it was too late as the masked killers had fled.
The police at Kodie towed the car from the scene; interrogated the female passenger and placed the dead body into mortuary. The robbers are now being chased.
