Media Urged To Increase Advocacy On Human Rights Law

A legal practitioner and lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Lawyer Zakaria Tanko Musah has called on Ghanaians to seek redress in court if they believe someone has denied them of their right.

“If someone has interfered on your right and you believe that right the person interfered is wrong, don’t sit down go to court as the constitution demand”.

In an interview with Ark FM, after a capacity building training workshop on human rights for journalists in Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions at the Royal Lamerta Hotel in Kumasi, Lawyer Tanko charged the media to up reportage and advocacy on human right law and educate public to understand their fundamental human right as it is the right every human being has in the constitution.

He said even though human right laws are enshrined in the constitution of the land, it is bound to be violated hence the need for effective education.

The two-day training on Ghana’s obligations under international human rights law which will end on October 2nd 2018 was organized by US-based Africa Center for International Law and Accountability (ACILA).

About 100 practicing journalists from Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions attended the workshop.

Lawyer Zakaria Tanko Musah urged the media to challenge any decision either from government, state institutions and individual which seeks to interfere and intervene on individual human rights.
