Meek Mill Seeks Ghanaian Citizenship

Renowned American rapper, Meek Mill, has declared his desire to acquire Ghanaian citizenship.

Meek Mill’s most recent visit to Ghana was in December 2022, where he performed at the Afro Nation music festival.

During this visit, he had the opportunity to meet with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House. Despite facing public backlash for filming part of a music video at the seat of government, Meek Mill apologized to Ghanaians for his actions and has continued to express his fondness for Ghana.

On March 4, 2024, the rapper took to Twitter to announce his decision, citing America’s oppressive treatment of Black individuals as his motivation:

“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders.”

Three days later, he clarified his intention to maintain his American citizenship while adding Ghanaian citizenship: “I need dual citizenship in Ghana I think I wanna go back and forth.” This move signifies his desire to have a connection with both countries.
