BUT FOR the timely intervention of the police , an innocent man would have been lynched by a mob at Ejisu on Thursday morning.
The mob initially thought the man, who was in the company of four children, said to be below four-years-old, was a kidnapper.
Ejisu has suffered ritual killings lately and so the mob threatened to kill the suspect, who is believed to be 25-years-old, as retaliation.
But armed policemen quickly stormed the Ejisu Roundabout area and managed to rescue the man to the station for interrogation.
The angry residents did not give up as they marched to the police station with stones and cutlasses to lynch the suspect.
The police had to barricade the place and called for reinforcement in order to prevent the mob from achieving their aim.
Later, police gathered that the suspect is from Tikrom and that he (suspect) was a mentally retarded person and also an uncle to the kids.
One Maame Ama Agyapongmaa, a grandmother of the children, also visited the police station and confirmed that the suspect was an uncle to the children.
