Premier League club Tottenham on Wednesday night, October 3, suffered another embarrassing defeat in the Champions League, losing 2-4 at home against Spanish champions Barcelona.
After losing their first game in this season’s Champions League campaign, the expectation of all Spurs’ fans was for their players to impress against Barcelona in their second group tie.
It took Barcelona only 92 seconds of game play to score their first goal through Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho who was superbly assisted by Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba.
Tottenham goalie Hugo Lloris would have himself to blame for conceding the first goal as he rushed off his line leaving heaps of space for Coutinho to score.
Coutinho then provided the assist that gave Barcelona their second goal in the 28th minute as he set up Croatia international Ivan Rakitic to net a stunner.
Englishman Harry Kane pulled one goal back for Spurs in the 52nd minute after receiving an excellent pass from Eric Lamela in which Barcelona goalie Stegan had no answer for.
But Messi caused more havoc thereafter as he extended Barcelona’s lead in the 56th minute with Jordi Alba providing the assist.
Eric Lamela gave Tottenham fans some hope in the 66th minute when he scored the second goal thanks to a superb assist by Heung Son, but Barcelona held on to record an incredible 4-2 win with Messi completing his brace for the night
