Meteors’ Olympic Games qualification Delays
Ghana’s ambition to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 faces another dicey delay test as they awaits to play another match between South Africa after losing to Ivory Coast in the semi-final on Tuesday.
The Black Meteors lost 3-2 on penalties after the game finished 2-2. Ibrahim Tanko’s side came from behind twice including a last-gasp equaliser scored by Evans Mensah.
Mensah was, however, not clinical from 12 yards as he Kwabena Owusu, and Emmanuel Cudjoe missed during the shootout. Ivory Coast goalkeeper Ira Tape saved all three penalties.
This however makes Cote d’Ivoire the shootout to make the finals on Friday and book the first African ticket to the Olympic football tournament.
Ghana will take on the loser of the second semi-final game for the final ticket to the Olympic football tournament in Japan.
In previous game of the Meteors, they defeated Mali 2-0 in their third group match to set up the clash with neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire who beat Zambia 1-0 to finish as Group B winners ahead of South Africa.
