Metro TV Shutdown Again Over Ghc2m Tax

The privately-owned Metro Television has been shut down by the officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority for their failure to pay a 2.3 million Ghana cedis fine.

Information gathered my Starrfmonline.com indicate that officials from the GRA stormed the premises at Labone Wednesday morning, ushered all staff out of the building and placed the office under lock and key.

According to officials of the GRA, the amount owed dates back to 2014.

GRA officials stated that several efforts to get the Management of the station to pay their taxes have proved futile.

This is the second time Metro TV has been shut down over non-payment of taxes. In December last year, the station was shut down after it failed to settle it tax obligation.

New owners of the Accra-based television, the Jospong Group of companies stated than that they were not made aware of certain tax liabilities left by the previous owners.

The GRA has recently embarked on an exercise to shut down companies and institutions who have not settled their tax obligations.
