MiDA Donates to GSA to Enforce Standards in Energy Sector

The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has begun works with the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) to develop and improve standards in the energy sector under the Power Compact Two programme.

The Power Compact Two programme will see Ghana get over 400 million dollars from the United States government to invest in Ghana’s Power sector.

Speaking at the premises of the Ghana Standards Authority, the Chief Executive of MiDA, Martin Eson-Benjamin announced a 5.5 million dollar donation to the Ghana Standards Authority to enforce standards in the power sector.

“Under this project, several policy initiatives and programmes will be undertaken aimed at ensuring energy efficiency and conservation in the use of the available capacity,” he said.

Mr. Eson-Benjamin stated it is important to maintain standards in the power sector to enhance energy conservation and also cut down on waste.

“We need to pay attention to the development and enforcement of standards and label activities, which will develop the regulation and enforcement for the use of higher efficiency appliances, aimed at saving overall energy consumption,” he said.

He explained that the donation will also improve energy auditing activity, which will build national capacity in energy auditing through establishing training centers in the country.
