Military, Police Clash Regretable ꟷ Interior Minister

The Minister of Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery, has apologized to Ghanaians for the infamous clashes between the Military and the Police in Tamale last week.

Briefing Parliament on matters relating to the incident, the Interior Minister, who spoke on behalf of the joint security team, described the Tamale clash and other previous ones as regrettable.

He said the security leadership had dispatched a high-powered delegation to the affected area and subsequently held meetings and durbars with the rank and file of the two institutions in Tamale on May 17^th, 2018.

He also indicated that, preliminary investigation conducted resulted in the setting up of a five (5) member committee involving two members each from the Police and the Military, and one from the Attorney General’s Department to conduct detailed investigations into the incidence and make recommendations accordingly.

The minister assured the House that anyone found culpable would face the full rigors of the law.

Minority Leader’s Intervention

On his part, Minority Leader, who is also the Member for Tamale South, where the incident occurred, Haruna Idrisu, was thankful to the Speaker for ensuring that the oversight role of Parliament had been fully exercised, and that the right signals had been sent to security heads in the country.

Concluding, Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Adwoa Safo, stressed that everyone who mattered in the case should be a matter of investigation. She called on Ghanaians to have confidence in the security services as leadership works to ensure that there is no recurrence of the incident.
