Miner killed at site
DISASTER STRUCK when a 26 year old miner was trapped and killed in a mining pit at Kubi near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Friday around 3:30 PM.
Kwadwo Asare was said to have stormed an abandoned mining pit of AngloGold Ashanti in Obuasi with his friends to dig the grounds in search of gold.
Unfortunately, in the course of the hard digging, Kwadwo Asare was trapped by a loose soil in the deep pit, thereby putting his life in great danger at the time.
The other miners at the scene did their utmost best to rescue the 26 year old miner and rushed him to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
This was contained in a police report, which has been sighted by THE NEW PUBLISHER.
“On 12/08/2022 at about 1900 hours Daniel Kofi Boadi, the Unit Committee Chairman of Kubi, near Obuasi, accompanied by Nartey Joseph of the same address, came to the station.
“And they reported that today about 0730 hours Kwadwo Asare, aged 26 years (now deceased) and others went to prospect for gold in an abandon AGA mining pit near Kubi.
“That about 1530 hours, he (Asare) was trapped by a loosed soil in the pit”, the police document indicated.
It added that “he was quickly rescued and rushed to Obuasi Government Hospital but was confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty”.
The police are still investigating the cause of Kwadwo Asare’s demise.
