A YOUNG illegal miner has become a hero after he expertly swam from the jaws of death to save his life.
The miner, whose name was not immediately given, was onboard a canoe when it capsized on the Offin River.
With the exception of the young miner, who survived, the three other people onboard the canoe, all got drowned.
The incident reportedly occurred at Manso Kaniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region on Saturday.
Edward Oduro Nsiah, the Amansie South District NADMO Coordinator, said the four people were all illegal miners.
He said the four miners had mined for gold at a mining site and they were returning home when their canoe capsized.
Oduro Nsiah said all the four people fell into the Offin river and their lives were in great danger after the accident.
According to him, three people drowned in the river and it was only the brave miner, who was able to swim to safety.
The Amansie South District NADMO Boss said only one body has been retrieved from the river after a search.
Oduro Nsiah noted that his outfit and other bodies were doing their best to help retrieve the remaining two bodies.
