Minister Kicks Against Imposition of Pre-Paid Meters
THE DEPUTY Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has kicked against the forced imposition of Pre-Paid Meters on customers.
According to him, it is not fair for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to compel its customers to adapt the pre-paid meters against their will.
At least, he suggested, the ECG should allow their customers to choose between pre-paid or post-paid meters without any forced imposition.
“The ECG is rendering services to Ghanaians, who in this case are their customers. Therefore the ECG has no right to impose anything on their customers.
“The customers should have their liberty to either choose pre-paid meters or post-paid meters”, he said during a chat with Kwame Sefa Kayi on Peace FM.
He said imposing pre-paid meters on the customers “is against the human rights of the customers so it should stop”.
Eugene Antwi, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency, said there is no country in the world where the customer has no choice.
According to him, the ECG is rendering services to their customers for a fee and so the customer should be at liberty to choose a policy he/she wants.
