Minister wins best farmer …grabs tricycle as award

DEPUTY ASHANTI Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyeman, has been adjudged the overall Best Farmer in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality.

She has been presented with a brand new Royal Tricycle and other farming equipment to help maximise her production to boost food security.

The minister, nicknamed as ‘People’s Mother’ in political circles, has been into commercial farming for over 40 years, helping to produce food.

Elizabeth Agyeman owns a 49 acre Cocoa Farm and other farms, including 12 acres of rice, 14 acres of maize and 2 acres of coconut as well as a large fishpond.

The citation for her award, explained how Elizabeth Agyeman was upholding proper record keeping practices to improve her farm activities.

It also said Elizabeth Agyeman, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Oforikrom, had employed more people into her farm, thereby reducing unemployment.

Elizabeth Agyeman, who looked emotional after receiving her award, said she had lived been a farmer for so many years “and I am glad my efforts have been rewarded.”

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister used the big occasion to appeal passionately to the youth to enter into farming in order to enhance their future.
