Minority to Haul Agyarko to Parliament

The Minority in parliament is planning to drag Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko to the house, to substantiate his claim that some disgruntled Ghanaian politicians who are not in favour of a military cooperation deal between Ghana and the United States of America, are inciting the youth in the Western Region to blow up oil fields.

Mr Agyarko made the comment in Houston, Texas, USA, at a meeting with some oil companies on the sidelines of the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).

Reacting to this statement in an interview with Class News, the Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee of parliament, Adam Mutawakilu, described the comments as unfortunate and disclosed the Minority’s plan to file an urgent question for the minister to prove his claim.

He said: “As Minority, we want to file an urgent question for the minister to come and answer on the floor of parliament to substantiate that he said some disgruntled politicians are mobilising the youth in the Western Region to attack oil facilities as a result of the US military deal agreement with Ghana. He’ll come and it’ll be official, captured in the hansard and we’ll make a follow up…”

The lawmaker, however, rubbished the claim saying: “There is no disgruntled politician mobilising any youth in Ghana, and more particularly in the Western Region to attack any oil facility.”
