At least ten people are feared to have died in a crash between two commercial buses at Mion on the Yendi-Tamale road on Thursday night as a result of poor visibility due to heavy rain fall.
The crash happened as a Yendi-bound Neoplan bus with registration number AS 693N moving from Tamale careered across the road and head-on collided with a Tamale-bound Benz bus with registration number GW2727S, which was moving from Nakpali, a survivor said.
Assemblyman for Sang Electoral Area in Mion, Yakubu Abubakar, told Accra-based Citi FM that: “As a result of the rain, visibility was not very good, so, the two crashed into each other and actually we have a whole lot of casualties”.
Dozens of other passengers were also injured in the crash.
The accident caused a gridlock.
Due to unanswered distress calls to first responders, other road users, including Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana, Gunnar Holm and his entourage; as well as the main opposition National Democratic Congress’ Northern Regional Youth Organiser, Alhaji Mohammed Aminu, stopped to offer assistance to the injured passengers, some of whom were taken to the Yendi Hospital for treatment while the deceased were conveyed to the Yendi Mortuary.
