Recent incidents of attacks on students, visitors, workers of the Miotso Campus in the Greater Accra Region reported by some media outlets are false, and should be regarded as fake news, management of the Central University has said.
The University in a statement signed by its Registrar sighted by thepublisheronline.com said, the Miotso Campus has been and continues to be a safe zone for everybody with less crime incident unlike what normally happens on any typical university campus.
“The Management of Central University has noted with concern a number of media voices which seek to
create the impression that the Miotso Campus of the University is unsafe for students. The University makes every effort to keep the campus safe and to provide all students, employees, and visitors with a positive experience while on campus. The level of serious crime and theft on campus is comparable to what obtains on a typical university campus across the country. Indeed for the whole of the second semester of the 2020/21 academic year, there were only 6 reported cases of armed robbery within or outside the campus” part of the statement reads.
It further added that, “in order to further boost off-campus security, a security post is nearing completion on the Miotso gate of the campus. When completed, this would be manned by police.”

PURPORTED INCIDENTS OF ATTACKS ON CENTRAL UNIVERSITY’S MIOTSO CAMPUS
The Management of Central University has noted with concern a number of media voices which seek to
create the impression that the Miotso Campus of the University is unsafe for students.
The University makes every effort to keep the campus safe and to provide all students, employees, and
visitors with a positive experience while on campus.
The level of serious crime and theft on campus is comparable to what obtains on a typical university campus across the country. Indeed for the whole of the second semester of the 2020/21 academic year, there were only 6 reported cases of armed robbery within or outside the campus.
The Miotso campus is host to 4500 students who live in a congenial and safe atmosphere. Apart from
campus hostels, a good number of accommodation facilities have sprung up in the communities around
the University.
Students who patronise these facilities are required to take extra caution when coming from
their hostels or leaving the campus. The few reported incidents of robberies have been targeted at these
students.
The University’s response to mitigate this challenge is to collaborate with the Prampram police for routine
patrols, increase the number and frequency of internal patrols, and sending regular awareness reminders
to students about safety and security.
The University has installed 157 street lights in the Miotso campus. Unfortunately, frequent power
fluctuations from unstable power supply and outages cause damage to some of them from time to time.
These are repaired and maintained routinely. A major project is underway to replace 118 LED street lamps
which have burned out for these same reasons. This should be completed in a matter of days.
In order to further boost off-campus security, a security post is nearing completion on the Miotso gate of
the campus. When completed, this would be manned by police.
We continue to encourage everyone, especially students living off campus, to take safety seriously and do
their part in staying vigilant and observant. Most crime is committed in response to an opportunity, so the
best prevention is to eliminate the opportunity.
Admissions are open and prospective applicants are invited to visit the Christ Temple, Miotso and Kumasi
campuses and get a feel of just how serene, safe and welcoming the University is.
